Jan. 10: Give a Little Whistle... Rev. Robert Latham (The Good of Guilt) |
In order to distinguish themselves from rejected religions, I have often
heard liberals say with some sense of pride: "We don't do guilt!" I
understand this need for distinguishing, yet, one of the lessons I have
learned in my experience is that guilt is good!
During this service I will endeavor to show that the capacity to experience guilt is the
primary evidence of being human; that a sense of guilt is a prerequisite for influencing
social change; and that liberals do guilt with a vengeance.
I anticipate that you will leave this service rejoicing in the role that guilt plays in
human transformation, including your own.
Lisa Dancing-Light will provide music and a Child care/child learning program will be
offered.
Rev. Latham will be available after the service during coffee hour and for up to
an hour thereafter for pastoral counseling (by prior appointment) and strategic planning
for the Mid-Valley group.

Jan. 17: Lessons from Darkness... Rev. Barbara Palmer |
.... A mid-Winter Musing
We Americans are lovers of light, and those of us who live in the West are
blessed with daylight for much of the year. Equally, each of us experiences
some kind of darkness, whether it be seasonal, cycles of day and night, or
some kind of personal darkness, and there are powerful lessons to be learned. We will
take this January moment to explore the possibilities for a richer and more meaningful
life when we discover together the wisdom only darkness can teach.
Reverend Palmer is a semi-retired clergy ordained with the Disciples of Christ, a small
but ecumenical and inclusive denomination. Her first love is writing liturgy. for church
services, reflecting her contemporary theology. Barbara's business is "Liturgical Designs"
and her current project is to have a full-size medieval style labyrinth installed in
Glenwood Springs.
This is also a Membership Sunday in which a new member will be welcomed into the
congregation.
Joanne Clements will conduct the children's program and a potluck lunch
will follow, so please bring your table service and a tasty dish to share. Visitors welcome!
